Smiling Waiter and guest
How much do you tip the waiter at the restaurant? Do you believe in a customary tip based on percentage of meal cost or is it based on the service that you receive. I am of the school of thought that a tip should be earned by customer service. I know you have to make a living but part of your living is providing a good customer experience. I have 2 rules when it comes to tip grading:
- Did you make me smile?
- Did you fill up my glass before I got to the bottom?
That’s it. Those 2 things have the impact to change the perception of the entire meal. If I am laughing every time you come around this influences my brain to think that we are friends and I naturally want to help and support a friend. The more I see you the more I am familiar and comfortable with you which also influences the brain to think we are friends.
How to improve your service as the customer? Follow rule 1 for waiters. When I go to a restaurant on of my first objectives after taking my seat is to make the waiter smile. Waiters deal with so many irate and nasty customers a day that if you can make them smile you will be on the top of their list of who to look out for that day.
What influences your tip amount the most?
Are you following these rules in your business?
